In the entire history of sport, great athletes have risen to the ranks from great sporting moments. Many great stories and legends have come from these moments shaping the history of sport and creating a legacy that will live on forever in the hearts of many. Dundee Kim gives you his 8 great sporting moments that went down in the books of sporting history.
1. Great Sporting Moment: Michael Phelps – 8 Gold Medals at the Olympics

In the summer of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, history was made when Phelps broke the record of having the most gold medals won in one Olympics. This video shows the desperate fight to win the gold medal, which will be the first of his 8 gold medal reign at the Olympic Games.
2. Great Sporting Moment: Michael Jordan’s Final Shot

In the dying seconds of the NBA 98’ conference finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz, Michael Jordan played his last game and threw his ‘Last Shot’. With only 5.2 seconds left on the clock, this last shot so happened to be the game winning-point to take the Bulls to a 6th championship in 8 years. Jordan received his 6th Finals MVP (Most Valuable Player) award and titled the NBA’s best player.

Rumble in the Jungle was between 2 heavyweight boxing champions, Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman. The build up event was extra special because the undefeated world heavyweight champion (Foreman) with 44 wins and 0 losses to his belt, was coming up against the undisputed former heavyweight champion (Ali). After a brutal battle, Ali put Foreman in the 8th round giving him his first ever loss. This battle has been arguably called, ‘The greatest sporting event of the 20th century”.
4. Great Sporting Moment: Stephen Bradbury comes from behind to win easily gold at 2002 Winter Olympics

Gold came to Bradbury at the most unexpected of times. The ice speedskater was coming down to the last stretch placed at dead last, when a mistake came as a miracle for Bradbury when the lead pack all hit the floor. Bradbury easily cruised through and finished first-placed to take the one of the luckiest and greatest sporting moments.
5. Great Sporting Moment: Rocky Marciano – Heavyweight Champion Retires Undefeated at 49-0
49 Wins – 0 Losses – 43 KO’s. This was the boxing record held by the undefeated heavyweight champion, Rocky Marciano. This is a remarkable feat by any professional boxer which is why this is deemed as a great sporting moment.
6. Great Sporting Moment: Miracle on Ice – US Hockey Team

The ‘Miracle on Ice’ got its name from the 1980 Winter Olympics when the United State hockey team defeated the Soviet Union in extraordinary fashion amidst the tension of decades of Cold War between the two countries. The US team consisted of amateur and college players coming up against the successful Soviet Union national team. The college kids were the underdogs of the match and was able to defeat the dominating force, 4-3. This victory touched the hearts of many, labelled as a transcending moment in sporting history.
7. Great Sporting Moment: Wilt Chamberlain – 100 Points in 1 game

8. Great Sporting Moment: Thrilla in Manila – Ali vs. Frazier III

Ranked to one of the best fights in sports history, the third and final chapter of the Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier bitter rivalry was decided in Manila. For 14 rounds, both athletes traded and exchanged lethal blows until Ali came out on top, when his opposite corner threw in the towel. The fight is one of the most exciting boxing events you will see.
